Level-5 has officially revealed Lady Layton, a sequel to the main Professor Layton series.
Following a leak earlier in the week, the game will feature professor Layton’s daughter (and a talking dog), and will be the usual blend of puzzle solving and storytelling. And will of course contain beautiful animations from Level-5.
The Professor Layton franchise is a popular puzzle-solving series that was first launched for the Nintendo DS, having recently come to iOS and Android. The franchise has multiple spin-offs, including a crossover with Phoenix Wright.
The trailer showed off the game’s wonderful animation and some character voice-overs, a few puzzles are shown.
The game was announced at the Level-5 Vision event, where the developer discusses the future of the studio. It was also announced the head puzzle designer of the game will be Kuniaki Iwanami, following the passing of original puzzle designer Akira Tago.
Sadly, there was no news regarding the most recent spin-off Layton 7. The role-playing puzzle game was shown 3 years ago at Level-5 Vision 2013. It has since undergone multiple overhauls.
As of now, there are no official announcements for a Western release, despite the franchise being a hit outside of Japan. Lady Layton is scheduled to launch in Japan sometime spring 2017 for 3DS, iOS, and Android.
