Boot up your systems Star Wars fans, Din Djarin and Grogu are headed to theaters in a newly announced movie. Titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, a film centered around the pair from the popular Disney Plus series will be going into production later this year according to official word from multiple Star Wars channels. It will be directed by the creator of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau. Favreau expressed his feelings on bringing his creations to theaters, saying, “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Of course, that isn’t the only Star Wars project currently in the works. Last year it was announced that a film focused on Rey was in production, helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Today’s announcement comes alongside confirmation that the project is still in the works. James Mangold and Dave Filoni are also developing Star Wars movies according to the announcement, but this is information that was already announced last year. Considering Patty Jenkins, Taika Waititi, and others were also developing projects in the Star Wars Universe, it’s good to have confirmation of what’s still on the table.
As for The Mandalorian & Grogu, it’s unclear what the film’s plot will be. Last we saw the two characters they had settled down on Nevarro. Filoni’s film will be taking place in the same era as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka so as of writing we don’t know when this film will take place. It could be in lieu of a fourth season of the Disney Plus series, leading into whatever comes next. Even though it hasn’t been officially confirmed, we can assume that Pedro Pascal will be returning as Din Djarin, although we will keep you updated.
The Mandalorian & Grogu currently has no release date.
