In England, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were called the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles as, for some reason, the powers that be decided the word Ninja was way too violent for our tiny little minds. That fact didn’t stop the Turtles from becoming a huge hit here, as they were elsewhere around the world.
In fact, the Ninja Turtles have been around as long as I have, first debuting in 1984, it’s arguable which of us is better so I’ll call it a draw. Since their inception they have gone on to be everywhere from comics, to TV, movies, merchandise, games, you name it and they’ve done it.
If reports are anything to go by they will soon be back.
In a Deadline exclusive they have announced that a new CG Animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is currently in development.
The reboot is set to come from Nickelodeon courtesy of Point Grey Pictures with Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver acting as producers. With a screenplay by Brendan O’Brian and Jeff Rowe directing there are a number of reasons to assume that the franchise is in good hands.
Not much else is known at this stage, there’s no story synopsis and no release date as of yet, but Viacom’s Brian Robbins did have this to say:
“Adding Seth, Evan and James’ genius to the humor and action that’s already an integral part of TMNT is going to make this a next-level reinvention of the property. I’m looking forward to see what they do.”
You and me both Brian.
This new movie is said to be completely separate from the previously announced deal with Netflix and I can’t wait to see what it brings.
