New World allows players to craft their equipment, potions and even food for their adventures around Aeternum. While you can buy weapons and armor at a trading post, you can also create your own and sell them. Before you can begin, you will need to gather enough ores to smelt and level up to unlock new materials. By the end of this guide, you will learn the basics of leveling mining in New World.

To mine ores, you need a pickaxe which you can craft at any workshop. The starter pickaxe is a Flint Mining Pick, but you will unlock recipes for better pickaxes as you level up your engineering skill. Stronger pickaxes have increased gather speed and can have perks on them. If you craft your own pickaxe, you can add special resources and azoth to select the perk. Some perks you can add to your pickaxe include increased durability, mining yield and luck. Having a stronger pickaxe will help you level up your mining much faster. However, you also need to meet the level requirement to equip it. For example, if you are only level 25, you will not be able to equip a Starmetal pickaxe, but you can use a Steel pickaxe.
