Residents in any area can express their feelings about tourists in different ways. Some may resort to violence, while others find more creative ways to show their discontent. A true New York citizen couldn’t let the thousands of tourists who visited on New Year’s have fun. This is why this person started an internet rumor that there would be fireworks at the Brooklyn Bridge. Quickly, the rumor gained traction and tourists actually believed this. So while New Yorkers went to Times Square to see real fireworks, tourists went to the Brooklyn Bridge expecting the same. They were in for a surprise, though.
In a now viral video, one of the tourists who visited the Brooklyn Bridge in New York showed how dozens of people were there as the clock ticked down. They began counting “three, two, one,” and as they started cheering, absolutely nothing happened. The cameraman still had hope that there would be fireworks as he said, “Any second now.” After a few seconds with no fireworks in sight, he questioned “Did we get pranked?” At this point, other tourists there probably came to the same realization because the cheering went down. “It’s not off to a good start,” the tourist said describing 2026. I mean, I would have been upset too if I were pranked like this. However, they still should have looked up if the Brooklyn Bridge had any fireworks.
People Reacting to the Brooklyn Bridge Prank in New York
If there was a certain group that found the Brooklyn Bridge prank to be absolutely hilarious, it was New Yorkers. Since this was quite iconic to deceive this many people, one person wrote, “I want to know who is behind this … this is legendary.” A New Yorker was also quite happy as they said, “As a Native New Yorker LMAO.” Others wondered about the intelligence of the tourists who actually believed that there would be fireworks. “Seeing moving cars on a bridge and thinking there’s gonna be fireworks is something,” one person wrote. Someone else said, “Everyone there is a transplant, bc there has never been Brooklyn bridge fireworks….”
More comments dragged the tourists as one person asked in disbelief, “So the city posted nothing about it, but everyone trusted TikTok?…” Pretty much, yeah. Others couldn’t believe that those who easily believed this rumor are allowed to vote. “I understand y’all’s elections now,” one TikTok user said. Another person then wrote, “These are all voters btw.” Someone else brought up Trump and said, “This is how trump got elected.” One thing is for sure: whoever fooled this many people now has a lot of fans.
