Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani of fomenting hate during a Fox News interview. His comments followed Mamdani’s call for federal authorities to act on an international arrest warrant against Netanyahu. Netanyahu also linked Mamdani’s criticism to fear among Jewish New Yorkers and a recent Manhattan stabbing.
The interview aired on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures and later circulated on X. Netanyahu was discussing his planned United Nations visit to New York and Mamdani’s response.
Mamdani had said federal authorities should act on a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court. He also supported New Yorkers’ right to protest Netanyahu’s visit. Mamdani said the city could not arrest Netanyahu on its own.
Netanyahu called the warrant’s charges “criminal” and “bogus.” He said Mamdani should represent Jews, Christians, Muslims and every other New Yorker. Netanyahu then accused the mayor of turning religious groups against one another.
“He’s fomenting hate,” Netanyahu said. “He’s foisting hate and fear.”
Netanyahu said Jewish Americans in New York were afraid. He then cited the stabbing of a Jewish man outside a synagogue. Netanyahu said he did not believe the timing was accidental.
Netanyahu called the situation “shameful” and “very bad for New York.” He said it was also “very bad for peace.” Netanyahu still planned to address the United Nations in New York. He said he would speak for Israel and the Israeli-American alliance from the podium.
New York Backlash Follows Netanyahu’s Remarks on Zohran Mamdani
The interview drew criticism over Netanyahu’s involvement in New York politics and his claims about Jewish residents.
One response stated, “Jewish Americans are safe. Stay out of our business. You do not speak for us.” Another wrote, “Bibi should not be talking about NYC. This is foreign interference.”
A separate user said, “Mamdani isn’t my cup of tea, but he’s 100% right about Netanyahu.”

Netanyahu still plans to address the United Nations in New York. His planned visit leaves the dispute with Mamdani unresolved.
