A bakery in New York is reportedly on the verge of filing for bankruptcy after repeated thefts have taken a significant financial toll on the business.

A video shared online compiled footage of multiple alleged thefts that had taken place inside the store. Some individuals appeared only once, while others were shown in several separate incidents. The first clip showed a man taking food from the bakery as someone off camera warned him that the police were going to be called.

Another clip showed a man taking food, placing it in his bag, and then leaving the bakery without paying. The compilation went on to show several more examples of alleged thefts. In one clip, a man was seen taking baked goods while an employee repeatedly told him, “Put it back,” but he continued and left with the items.

A man who had appeared earlier in the video was shown again during another theft, placing food into his bag. As he did so, a woman could be heard repeatedly telling him, “Stop.” Despite her requests, he continued taking items before leaving the bakery. Another clip showed a woman who appeared to eat some of the bakery’s products without paying for them.

The rest of the video showed several more alleged thefts. The same man with the bag appeared for a third time, once again placing food inside it before leaving. At one point, someone inside the bakery could be heard saying, “He comes all the time.” Based on the footage, employees did not appear to physically intervene during the incidents, possibly out of concern for their safety. The person who shared the video claimed that the repeated thefts had pushed the bakery to the verge of bankruptcy because of the financial losses. It is unclear whether police have intervened in any of the incidents.

Viewers Outraged As New York Bakery Faces Bankruptcy

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers expressed frustration over what was happening to the New York bakery and criticized the people shown in the alleged thefts. “How disgusting…,” one person wrote. Another commenter offered advice to the bakery owners, saying, “Stop putting stuff out that can easily be grabbed at this point. Customers will just have to ask for it behind the counter.”

More viewers weighed in on the situation, with some expressing concern about the bakery’s future and others suggesting ways the business could reduce theft. “And when she shuts her doors for good they’ll demostrate against it. New York has no choice but to implement city/state owned shops if they are going to have any type of retail. Selections will be limited and lines will be long. Hopefully valuable lessons will be learned,” one person wrote. Another commenter offered a suggestion, saying, “Simple solution: Pick up window and local deliveries. It’s the only way to save the store until law and order in NYC is restored.”

The video sparked a conversation about how small businesses should respond when they face repeated thefts. This is along with what measures they can take to protect their employees and merchandise. It also led to broader discussions about the financial impact of repeated retail theft. Many viewers argued that ongoing losses can push small businesses toward bankruptcy. This will ultimately reduce services and opportunities within the community.
