The government shutdown has affected more than just the livelihoods of federal workers, as millions of citizens are suffering from many of their benefits, as Americans are being cut, one major one being SNAP, aka food stamps. Fortunately, if you’re a New Yorker who’s struggling to put food on the table, Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that the state will be providing $30 million in funding for emergency food, according to WSYR.
This massive donation has been issued on top of the initial $11 million that’s going out to keep families in New York fed. “I am committed to ensuring New Yorkers do not go hungry this holiday season and am taking action to support the families suffering the consequences of Republicans’ cruelty,” Hochul remarked. She claims that she and her administration will continue to give their all to oppose the oppressive regime in DC, ruining the lives of normal citizens as they live quite comfortably. With tariffs causing inflation, medical insurance skyrocketing, and ICE terrorizing the country, truly, this is one of the US’s worst timelines.
And while Hochul’s actions are encouraging, many still don’t have much hope that things will get better. “Too many new yorkers voting for conservative republicans,” comments a Reddit user. “The Facebook comments are blaming…her 💀,” another added. “Unfortunately, not even this could change the simplistic mind of a MAGA SNAP recipient,” chimed in a third.
Governor Kathy Hochul has certainly been on a roll as of late with her behavior while in office. She strongly criticized the Young Republican Club members after the discovery of their “vile” chat history and then challenged the White House for accountability. She’s also been outspoken for immigrants in the US and in support of the everyday citizen, promising healthcare benefits for New Yorkers on top of this emergency food budget. Let’s just hope she stays true to her word and makes a difference for the better in New York, and hopefully, other states will follow suit.
