A woman in New York is facing backlash after she was filmed blocking a handicap-accessible van from dropping off an elderly passenger before spraying bystanders who confronted her about her actions.
The video was recorded by a bystander who said he witnessed the incident unfold. While filming the woman sitting inside her car, he remarked, “This is why I [expletive] hate people.” According to the bystander, the woman saw a handicap-accessible van attempting to drop off a passenger, but still parked directly behind it, preventing the driver from unloading the elderly passenger. He then turned the camera toward the van to show that it was unable to let anyone out because of where the woman’s vehicle was parked.
As the bystander continued filming, the woman rolled down her window and began spraying him with a liquid from a spray bottle. It is unclear what the substance was, although the man did not appear to show any visible signs of pain or injury in the video. A female bystander then stepped in and confronted the woman about her behavior. In response, the woman repeatedly told her, “Come closer. Let me show you.”
The bystander who was filming then walked behind the woman’s vehicle and recorded her license plate. Even at that point, she was still refusing to move her car and allow the handicap-accessible van to drop off its elderly passenger. “You just want to make everything hard for no reason,” the bystander told her as he continued recording the incident.
The second part of the video showed the woman getting out of her car and walking toward the female bystander. She then appeared to spray the woman as well during the confrontation. The clip ended shortly afterward, making it unclear whether the woman eventually moved her car to allow the handicap-accessible van to drop off its passenger.
Viewers Criticize New York Woman After Blocking Handicap Van
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers were outraged by the New York woman’s behavior, leading to widespread criticism in the comments. “People are literally so hate filled. It is such a sad commentary,” one person wrote. Another commenter speculated that the woman had behaved similarly before, saying, “She’s clearly used to being filmed in public for acting like this. She had that spray bottle right next to her and ready to go.”
More people expressed outrage, with several commenters arguing that the woman should face legal consequences for her actions. “That’s battery. She can be charged. She SHOULD be charged,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “It’s got to be stopped. This behavior can’t be tolerated. She should go to jail.” Someone else added, “What an absolute degenerate pig of a person. I bet she wonders why her life sucks.”
The video sparked a conversation about disruptive and aggressive behavior in public. This is particularly when it affects vulnerable people and bystanders. It also led to broader discussions about accountability, with many viewers arguing that individuals who spray or otherwise assault others during confrontations should face appropriate legal consequences.
