A New York woman has come under fire for supporting the Long Island Rail Road strike. However, her statement has not been well-received, according to the comments on the TikTok video she posted.
The Long Island strike lasted for over three days and was the first railroad strike in over 30 years. The workers’ demands focused on pay increases of over 9% within the next three years and a raise for this year. The New York governor has promised that the deal will not raise taxes or fares for locals. Many on TikTok have shared their opinions regarding the strike, such as one woman who posted that the workers deserve “a merit each year.”
In the video, the New York woman says she “supports the Long Island Rail Road strike.” Her reason for her support is that she claims the workers have not received a raise in five years. She says, “Yes, they make over $100,000, but it’s not a lot if you’re feeding a family.” Additionally, she suggests that the MTA fund, with over $15 billion, should be used to pay the union workers.
Several Blast New York Woman’s Comments
The New Yorkers video has gained some negative attention from many who feel her statement is a little out of touch. One commenter doesn’t see how this impacts her, saying, “Posting this from [a] very comfortable-looking Manhattan apartment.” Another agrees, “She said [from] the top of her high horse.” One comment reads, “The rich will always support the greediness.”
Others have taken issue with her statement regarding the workers’ current salary of over $100,000. One asks, “What about those of us who make $50k? We have family to feed as well.” Another suggests the workers “can find another part-time job like the rest of us.” A third comment reads, “Man, if I made that, I definitely wouldn’t be striking.”
She has not responded to any of the negative comments.
