New York City has had many viral moments since its basketball team won the championship. Some moments were fun, some were chaotic, and some just left people confused. This is one of those confusing ones.
A video posted by @ClownWorld shows a woman wearing a New York Knicks jersey dumping all the trash from a public bin onto a Manhattan sidewalk. After that, she picks up the empty bin and walks away with it.
The bin, painted in the team’s blue and orange colors, looks like one of the special ones placed along the parade route. Many fans tried to take these as souvenirs, leaving a mess behind for city workers to clean up.
The video has already gotten millions of views.
Internet Reacts to the New York Knicks Fan’s Trash Can Theft
The replies didn’t hold back. One commenter wrote, “No conscious thought about ethics, morality or society. Just ‘I want this’ ogre mentality.” Another kept it short and pointed: “It should be charged!! Littering and theft.”
A third laid out a two-part case against her: “1. How do we share a planet with someone like this? 2. She’s willing to bring that filthy thing back to her home.”
Some leaned into the absurdity of it. “She really said ‘one man’s trash is another Knicks fan’s treasure,’” one user joked.
Others widened the lens to international comparisons. “That is so disgusting! Contrast that with the Japanese team’s fans cleaning up their entire section after the game. And we wonder why the rest of the world thinks what they think about Americans,” one commenter wrote.
And one reply broke down the moment itself in detail: “The fact she just dumped the entire thing on the sidewalk without even flinching is wild. Like the mess was someone else’s problem the second she decided the bin looked good with her jersey. NYC really got some characters out here.”
This comes after several other incidents following the championship. While people were celebrating the Knicks’ first title since 1973, things also got out of hand. Police reported multiple arrests, and other viral videos showed fans damaging a Five Guys restaurant and even a woman’s hair catching fire in a crowd.
This trash can video is just the latest in a series of chaotic moments.
