According to Screen Daily, Nic Cage is set to reunite with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance director Brian Taylor for the upcoming horror-thriller Mom and Dad. Taylor is best known for directing the hyper-kinetic action film Cranked, as well as its sequel Cranked: High Voltage. He also wrote and directed Gamer and helped write the film adaptation of comic book Jonah Hex. The upcoming film will focus on a teenager and her younger brother, who must survive a 24 hour period where parents turn against and attempt to kill their own children. Production is set to begin in July.
Details are sparse on what role Nic Cage will take in the film, but we can only hope he brings his oddball acting style to the antagonistic “Dad” of the film’s title. Taylor had nothing but praise to heap on the Oscar-winning actor, stating “This is the kind of role Nic was put here to play. Human, funny, scary – somehow grounded while at the same time completely off the rails. For a filmmaker, there is nothing quite like the experience of Nic Cage bringing a character you’ve written to life.”
Nic Cage is no stranger to horror films. In addition to acting in Season of the Witch and the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man, he was also the producer of 2000’s Shadow of the Vampire. He won the Academy Award for Best Lead Actor for his portrayal of Ben Sanderson in Leaving Las Vegas. He was also nominated for 2003’s Adaptation. More recently, he has been less discerning with his role choices. He was nominated for Razzie Awards (although never winning one) in 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2015. He was recently in the news for being forced to return a stolen Tyrannosaurus Rex skull that he purchased back in 2007. Seriously.
