Nick Carter has launched a countersuit in response to the sexual assault lawsuits leveled against him by two women. Both women accused the star of raping them over fifteen years ago. However, he has since denied those allegations, insisting the alleged victims had ulterior motives for vilifying him.
The most recent of these lawsuits hit the singer in December 2022, after one of the women, Shannon Ruth, filed a lawsuit against him for alleged sexual battery, which happened in 2001. The second woman, Melissa Schuman, who is a former teen pop singer, sued him as far back as 2017. She claims the Backstreet Boys singer raped her while working together on a project in the early 2000s.
Nick Carter’s Sexual Assault Countersuit
New reports show Nick Carter is finally fighting back against the two women involved in the sexual assault scandal by filing a countersuit. In the countersuit, the crooner accused the two women of taking advantage of the #MeToo movement to launch a five-year conspiracy theory to defame and vilify him. The countersuit also alleged that the women intended to ruin his reputation in a bid to gain attention and fame and possibly extort money from the singer.
Nick’s countersuit went on to describe the two women as opportunists who set out to destroy innocent lives. Per the suit, the December allegation by Melissa cost the star over $2.3 million in business losses. The countersuit also alleges that Melissa and her dad Jerome Schuman recruited Ruth, who had autism and cerebral palsy, to accuse him falsely.
Nick’s suit accused melissa of attempting to do the same with his late brother Aaron Carter, resulting in the late singer launching a “misguided” campaign against Nick and the rest of the family. The suit read:
“Schuman, Jerome, and Ruth exploited Aaron’s fragile condition and family stresses to cloak their defamatory campaign with credibility, relentlessly and repeatedly using Aron to try to legitimize their frivolous claim.”
The countersuit claims that the younger Carter brother realized their attempt to use him and apologized to his brother, leading to their reconciliation before his death. Responding to the countersuit, Ruth’s lawyer Mark J. Boskovich pointed out Nick had slim chances of convincing the jury given his long history of abusing women. Despite the attorney’s conviction, Nick Carter remains hopeful his countersuit would yield fruit, help the world know his truth, and clear his name for good.
