Melissa Schuman is aiming for a shot at justice once again as she revives her sexual assault charges against Nick Carter. The crooner first accused the Backstreet Boys bandmember of sexually assaulting her in 2017, over a decade after the alleged act was perpetrated. According to her, Nick performed the act while they were filming the movie, The Hollow together in 2002. The incident led to her losing her virginity without consent.
Although Nick has since denied the allegations, Melissa remains unwavering in her quest for justice. This time, she aims to hit even harder, hoping a new bill extending the statute of limitations for civil actions will avail her another chance to gain justice.
Melissa Schuman Resumes Sexual Assault Battle Against Nick Carter
Melissa alleged in the court documents that she was 18 at the time while Nick was 22. Nick allegedly invited her over to his apartment and performed oral sex on her against her will. He then demanded that she reciprocate, after which he proceeded to forcefully have sex with her, despite her claims that she was saving herself for marriage.
She remained mum on the subject until November 2017. Explaining her decision to break her silence years after the incident, Melissa admitted “the Harvey Weinstein allegations” acted as a trigger, reopening old wounds. That prompted her to file a report against Nick Carter, hoping he would also face conviction for sexual assault as in Harvey’s case.
However, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office turned down her filing, citing an expired statute of limitations. The 38-year-old found renewed hope following the introduction of a California law earlier this year, reviving sexual assault claims and extending the statute of limitation. This prompted her latest filing, accusing Nick of Sexual assault and battery.
On his part, the pop star has repeatedly denied the claims of sexual assault against him. In February, Nick Carter took things a notch further, filing a countersuit against Melissa Schuman and another woman, Shannon Ruth, who also accused him of rape. His countersuit alleged that his two accusers were part of a conspiracy that aimed to extort him financially. Hopefully, with the renewal of the sexual assault case in a new light, the truth could finally come to light and ensure the guilty party faces the brunt of the law.
