Nintendo may still be struggling to find their footing in the modern video game industry, but the big N has one large advantage over its upstart rivals Microsoft and Sony; it has a massive back catalogue of games stretching all the way back to the eighties. And three of Nintendo’s very best are going to hit the 3DS e-shop; Donkey Kong Country, Earthbound and Super Mario Kart.

The plot is that you’re a Gorilla in a neck-tie riding a rhino to fight crocodiles. If you need any more than that, you have no soul.

There is just one minor bump in the road if you’re already firing up your 3DS to buy Donkey Kong Country; it, and the other two are exclusive to the latest edition of the 3DS only. Nintendo seems to be gearing its handheld strategy towards the newer, more powerful 3DS. It has already been noted that Hyrule Warriors Legends runs shakily on any model of 3DS other than the newest model. And, according to technobuffalo.com, the reason Donkey Kong Country and the other games are restricted to the new model is for a similar reason;

“Remember, SNES games are only playable on the New Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo’s offered that this decision came as a result of processing power for emulation.”

So, if you do have the newest model, you’ll be able to play some classic slices of Nintendo history soon.
