A man’s drive across Cary, North Carolina, was cut short when a sudden, giant pumpkin crossed his path, immediately prompting him to pull over, saving his and his passenger’s lives. The pumpkin was of the inflatable kind, which means they weren’t in any real danger after all, of course. Still, that’s quite a bizarre image to witness.
The not-so-much pumpkin close call was shared online by Phillips Farms of Cary on TikTok. It is a fourth-generation, family-owned farm currently run by Michael Phillips, who often posts clips related to its farming activities and events. The clip attached above became the account’s biggest clip to date, garnering 840,100 views, 69,200 likes, and close to 800 comments.
The clip shows an Uber driver traveling down a street with a woman as a passenger. Shortly, a giant orange round object could be seen in the distance, closing in on the vehicle little by little. It was an inflatable pumpkin, fresh out of its duties from the local Pumpkinfest, and it seemed it had run away in a relentless search for freedom.
“It’s gonna hit us!” the Uber driver said with a hint of excitement in his voice. “The pumps gonna hit my car.”
Pumpkin Disaster
The driver started to reverse as the pumpkin continued on its path of Halloween-themed destruction. He screamed while the woman tried to shush him, to no avail. Laughter at the bizarre and ridiculous sight was exchanged between them.
Eventually, a man jumped over a fence and attempted to stop the pumpkin altogether. Seeing its speed, the man backed off a bit before trying to stop it. He was unsuccessful. The pumpkin continued its path, now moving toward a parking lot filled to the brim with cars.
The North Carolina driver figured this was the time to act. So he parked to the side of the road, exited his vehicle, and joined the other man in their attempt to stop the savory delicacy before someone got hurt.
Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses, mostly from viewers who were delighted and amused by it. One said, “I’ve seen this episode of 911.” Another one commented, “Me embracing the things life throws at me.”
Others thought the reaction was a bit overblown. One asked, “How do you expect an inflatable pumpkin to hurt your car?” Another one wrote, “It’s an inflatable pumpkin, guys… Your car will be fine.”
In a follow-up clip, the Cary-based farm shared that the pumpkin was back home. Thankfully, no more vehicles will see their lives cut short thanks to inflatable thingies floating down the road.
