A man in Charlotte, North Carolina, accused a popular tattoo artist of ghosting him, canceling appointments multiple times, failing to give him his requested tattoo, and ultimately blocking him. He had paid a $350 deposit, which has yet to be returned.
The man known as Poet Spiff shared his nightmare tattoo story on TikTok. As his nickname indicated, he is a poet who, in the past, has shared visual representations of his writings. The off-topic clip attached above, however, became his biggest ever. It garnered 661,600 views, 94,400 likes, and more than 1,800 comments.
The North Carolina man started strong, saying, “I gotta sue this popular tattoo artist in Charlotte.” Why? Because, according to him, she has been taking deposits and straight-up canceling tattoo appointments by using the “same excuse.” Spiff said that the tattoo artist is Jaida Robinson, whose username is amare_breaux.
The man’s ordeal began back in January. He reached out to Jaida to set up an appointment. Initially, it all went smoothly for him. However, it all changed once he paid her the requested $350 deposit. From that moment on, as shown in mulitple screenshot messages, Spiff was ghosted.
Weeks passed, and he once again reached out to the tattoo artist. His scheduled appointment was near, as well as his birthday. At the time, Spiff was sick, so he inquired about a possible rescheduling. Eventually, the woman did respond, saying that she was sick too and that they could reschedule. The rescheduling itself took a week, but the appointment was set for March 18.
Things Get Weird
Things got weird right there and then.
“Randomly, one day on her story, she posted a list of available dates for people to book, and mine was one of them. And it was like twelve to 4, and my appointment was an eight-hour appointment,” Spiff said.
Again, the ghosting continued, the man said, but Jaida ended up confirming the appointment. Then it got de-confirmed last minute when she said that she needed to grab supplies and was “catching a cold.”
“I got PTSD because, mind you, I have gotten a tattoo from her before. Great tattoo. She does great work,” the North Carolina man said. “But she used that same excuse then, and that should have been a red flag.”
The tattoo appointment was rescheduled for days later, but Spiff warned her that another setback would result in him asking for a refund. Unfortunately for him, the appointment was canceled. Why? Again, Jaida messaged him that she was sick, as her symptoms had “heightened.”
Spiff asked for his money back. A back-and-forth ensued for the following days and weeks, with Jaida promising to get him the money back as soon as she worked for it, the messages showed. Several promised dates went by, and Spiff was still out of his $350, with more excuses such as car expenses being brought up.
Eventually, Jaida told him that messaging her repeatedly wasn’t going to speed things up. A visibly frustrated Spiff would then message her personal page, and he was told not to reach out to her about money on that account.
Months went by, and Spiff has been blocked since.
Social Media Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses online, mostly from viewers who matched Spiff’s frustration and were shocked by the $350 deposit being spent. One said, “Deposits shouldn’t be spent before services are rendered.” Another one commented, “As a tattoo artist, this is insane.”
Other viewers, who appeared to have suffered the same fate as the North Carolina man, shared their stories, too. One wrote, “You and me both, brother. I paid in November last year.” Spiff later responded to another comment, saying, “Like 15 people in the comments alone. Get the RICO started.”
Spiff has reached out to a lawyer and has since sent Jaida a formal letter to request his money back.
