A man in North Carolina stood up to a woman who ordered about $50 worth of ice cream and then attempted to leave without paying for it.
The man explained that he was sitting inside an ice cream shop with his family when the incident occurred. According to his account, the woman repeatedly entered and left the store before finally placing an order. He claimed that she frequently changed her selections while ordering, causing the process to take longer. Eventually, she settled on an order that he said totaled about $50 in ice cream.
The man claimed that when it came time to pay, the woman said she did not have any money. According to his account, she then began insisting that an employee had told her the order was free. The man said that this was “dishonest” since he witnessed the situation from the beginning. After witnessing the exchange, he started recording the situation and decided to speak up in defense of the employees working at the ice cream shop.
In the video, the woman could be seen holding the ice cream while arguing with the employees. At that point, the man stepped in and told the staff that if they decided to call the police, he would be willing to serve as a witness on their behalf. The woman then turned to him and said, “Please don’t talk to me.”
She then turned her attention back to the employees and stated that she no longer wanted the ice cream. Because loud music was playing in the background, it is difficult to hear exactly how the employees responded. At one point, the woman appeared to try placing the ice cream cone on the counter. That was when an employee firmly responded, “No,” indicating that they did not want her leaving it there.
The woman responded by saying that she was going to throw the ice cream away. She then repeated her claim that an employee had told her the order would be free. At that point, the man intervened again, stating that he had been filming the interaction the entire time and that no employee had said the ice cream was free. According to the video, once the woman realized she was being recorded, she began to leave the shop and threw the ice cream away before exiting.
As the woman started leaving, the man shared his thoughts on the situation. “This is what entitlement, my friends, is called,” he said in the video. He then called out to the woman before she exited the store and asked, “Why would you come in here if you didn’t have money to pay for it?” The man also expressed his opinion in the video’s caption, writing, “This woman came in trying to take advantage of this business, but left empty-handed. Not on my watch.” His comments reflected his belief that the woman had intentionally attempted to avoid paying, although that claim was based on his interpretation of the incident.
Viewers Criticize North Carolina Woman Over Attempting Not to Pay
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers were outraged by the woman’s alleged attempt to avoid paying for her order, leading to a wave of criticism online. “The entitlement is unreal!” one person wrote. Another commented, “Unfortunately people do this because they expect someone to offer to pay.”
More people weighed in on the incident, with some arguing that businesses should require payment before preparing or serving orders. “Places need to start charging before the item or product is rendered,” one person wrote. Another agreed, saying, “Every businesses should start charging first!”
The video sparked a conversation about entitlement and whether some customers try to take advantage of small or family-owned businesses by attempting to avoid paying for goods and services. It also led to discussions about what businesses can do to protect themselves from payment disputes. Many people suggested policies such as requiring payment upfront or implementing clearer procedures for handling large orders.
