An Ohio woman left viewers heartbroken after sharing how she found a K9 locked inside a sheriff’s car and in “severe distress,” prompting her to call 911.
The woman was walking at night with her own dog when she heard the K9 barking. “This is [expletive] crazy,” she said as she approached the vehicle where the dog had been left. The K9 continued barking as she got closer, and she soon realized that the dog was locked inside a sheriff’s vehicle.
The woman continued filming as she stood behind the vehicle and recorded its number. Throughout this, the K9 continued barking loudly while remaining locked inside. “That’s wild,” the woman said. After seeing the situation, she decided to call 911. She also wrote over the video, “Never be afraid to speak up.”
In the caption, the woman shared more details about what happened after she discovered the K9 inside the vehicle. She said she called 911 because she believed the situation was unacceptable, adding, “this is not okay in any circumstance.” She also said that the local police department responded “somewhat quickly” after she called 911 twice.
The concerned citizen also described the condition the K9 appeared to be in when she found it. “This Butler County (Ohio) K9 officer was in severe distress after being left in the vehicle overnight,” the woman wrote. She added, “Columbus police responded in a reasonable manner and the vehicle has since been turned on with an officer inside.”
Toward the end of the video, the woman showed that the vehicle appeared to have been turned on. “Vehicle is now on. I think they’re good. The vehicle is on,” she said while filming the sheriff’s car. She also explained in the caption why she believed the situation was unacceptable. “Leaving your dog alone in a vehicle overnight is never acceptable, working K9 dog or not. This poor baby was crying and barking for hours,” she wrote. It remains unclear whether the police department the vehicle belonged to planned to take any action against the officer involved.
