One Piece star Taz Skylar is heading to the big screen. On Wednesday, Oct. 11, the Spanish actor revealed that he’s been cast in the upcoming action-thriller Cleaner. According to Deadline, he’ll star opposite Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley, who’s taking on the leading role of Joey Locke. The film, which will be directed by Martin Campbell, will mark Skylar’s first major movie role. The actor announced his involvement in the film just hours after teasing he had big news to share with fans.

On Oct. 10, One Piece star Taz Skylar attended the premiere of Gassed Up during the 67th BFI London Film Festival. After sharing photos from the event on Instagram, the actor teased he had a surprise up his sleeve by pointing out his changed appearance. “I shaved my head 😂 can’t wait to show you why…,” he captioned the photos.
It’s unclear if he was talking about Cleaner; however, the following day, Taz Skylar announced he had joined the film by sharing a Deadline article about his casting. According to the publication, Cleaner will begin filming in 2024. Since it falls under the British Equity Act, it’s allowed to begin production amid the SAG strike.
Cleaner will be directed by Martin Campbell, whose most well-known projects include The Mask of Zorro and the James Bond films GoldenEye and Casino Royale. Most recently, Campbell also directed action-thrillers like The Foreigner, The Protégé, and Memory.
After announcing his casting on Instagram, Skylar’s Once Piece co-star Jacob Romero congratulated the star on landing a role in Cleaner. “Up and up and up he goes 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾,” Romero commented underneath Skylar’s post. Skylar then responded with a heart emoji.
Over the past few weeks, Taz Skylar has received newfound attention due to his role as Sanji in Netflix’s One Piece. The live-action series is based on the popular manga and anime series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda. It premiered on Netflix on Aug. 31 and has since been renewed for a second season.
