Most people understand the importance of avoiding racism and antisemitism, but one nurse from Oregon seems to think differently. Camesha Lynn Hart recently drew widespread attention—and outrage—after making harsh and hateful comments about Jewish people. Active on Instagram, Hart frequently engaged with posts featuring Jewish individuals. While most people expressed disbelief and sympathy, she responded with shocking hostility. “I would refuse to treat you. I don’t take care of animals. Dogs. Rats. Vermin of any kind,” she wrote.
That wasn’t the only hateful comment the Oregon nurse posted. At one point, she also wrote another antisemitic remark, “May they all meet their ancestors soon!” In another reply on Instagram, she stated, “I couldn’t care less. I would never treat you anyway. I’m not a vet, and I don’t treat dogs.”
As we all know, nothing truly disappears from the internet, and it didn’t take long for people to take notice. The popular Twitter account StopAntisemitism shared Camesha’s comments with its 300,000 followers, sparking widespread outrage. Many were appalled that someone with such hateful views could work as a nurse. “Disgusting! As a nurse practitioner, I have never, ever looked at a patient with disgust or contempt! This is so wrong and unfathomable to me,” one user commented.
The Twitter post gained so much attention that Hart’s employer announced she was under investigation. Rather than staying silent, Hart attempted to push back against the backlash. She launched a GoFundMe campaign, claiming she had been doxxed and needed funds to hire a lawyer. However, her attempt to rally support didn’t last long, as the fundraiser was soon taken down.
Currently, there is no official update on Hart’s employment status at OHSU. However, Ynetnews has reported that the Oregon nurse has been fired over alleged antisemitic remarks. While her fate remains uncertain, many are calling for her removal from the nursing profession.
“I’m very pro-Gaza, but she said, ‘I’m not a vet, I don’t treat dogs,’ which is fucking disgusting. It paints anti-genocide protesters in a (intentionally, I think) shitty light. What Israel is doing is horrific, objectively bad, and needs to be criticized,” one Redditor commented.
Some Redditors found it odd that this story didn’t gain much traction outside of right-wing media. “Other than the WW story about an investigation, I’ve only seen this reported by obscure right-wing outlets. If there’s something truly newsworthy here, I’d expect to see it covered by a reputable local or national source,” one user commented.
