The whole world seems to be on the edge of its seats after the final episode of Outer Banks season 3. This episode, which just launched on Netflix last Thursday, last saw the Pogues, and they were hunting for new treasures in the legendary city of gold in El Dorado. With the new season of Outer Banks being renewed for Season 4, we already know from the ending of Season 3 that they will be doing something related to Blackbeard.
What Could Be In Store For Us In Season Three?
EW spoke with the co-creators, Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, about what the future of the Outer Banks would be, and the showrunners revealed that they have chosen not to stick to their original plan of having it last for only four or five seasons. Josh Pate even jokingly said he could see the show run for 17 seasons but soon then became serious and said, “I don’t know if I could put a real number on it right now – how long it takes to get that ending might expand, but we now know the shape of the end of the story. We’re going to take it as long as we can, for sure.” Jonas Pate then joked that “in season 17, we’ll be on Mars.” Imagine that, treasure on Mars.
Outer Banks is different and seems to be going in a bigger direction, with the last episode of season 3 pointing to treasure relating to Blackbeard. However, the creators have made it clear that they understand that going bigger can sometimes ruin a show and that they want to keep the show grounded at the same time. For now, we do not know when Outer Banks season 4 will begin filming, but hopefully, it will be soon so we can have an early 2024 release date.
