JJ and Kiara are one of the most popular ships in the fandom of the TV world, but also in Outer Banks;Â these two have been wanted together by fans in the early seasons, but since season 3 was just recently released on the streaming service, Netflix, we finally got to have some screen time with them together. JJ and Kiara share many cute moments from her calling him “Jayj” to them both sharing a kiss at the end of the season. Today, we will be talking about all the reasons that JJ and Kiara are the best ship.
Kiara and JJ Are The Most Similar In Outer Banks
Out of all the characters in Outer Banks, JJ and Kiara are most definitely the most similar, even if they had very different upbringings. Kiara is basically half Kook as her parents are wealthy, and…a little bit over-loving with how much they try to control her life. This is something JJ doesn’t have…his mom hasn’t been mentioned at all in the show, while his father is the only parent around that is nothing but physically and emotionally abusive to him. But the two always seem to have the same outlook on things…other than the times JJ brought the gun to places it shouldn’t be taken to. JJ and Kiara both seem to just wanna escape all the stresses around them and live somewhere they can be happy and just…surf probably.
Both JJ and Kiara Take Care of Each Other
There are so many countless moments and scenes where we get to see Kiara and JJ both take care of one another…like when JJ jumped off a bridge on his dirt bike making Kiara think he died and her telling him to never do that again. Or all the times JJ steps in front of Kiara when things get a little heated around them. JJ is known for covering up his emotions and not being vulnerable, which is understandable considering how his father treats him. He replaces his emotions with humor and an “I don’t give a crap” attitude. The beautiful thing is, Kiara can always see when JJ is hurting, which is something everyone else doesn’t see. They connect on a deep level that no one else seems to have ever with them. Another perfect example of how much Kiara knows what he needs is when he broke down crying in the hot tub, and she, without a second thought, goes over to him and holds him while he cries. JJ spends most of season 3 making sure Kiara is okay and safe. They are always looking out for one another.
Kiara Cares Differently For JJ Than The Others
It is obvious with each season we see more and more how Kiara is very different toward JJ and the other Pogues. She has a softer tone toward him than the others. Even during the times, she was with Pope, she didn’t have the same approach to their relationship as she does to her and JJ’s friendship. We can say the same with JJ. Of course, Kiara is the only girl in the group for a while before Sarah, and the boys know it is their responsibility to keep her safe. JJ especially feels this way and it is obvious from how overprotective of her he is.
All They Truly Wanted Was To Be Together
From the beginning of the series, it was always obvious that JJ wanted to be with Kiara, between flirting with her or even just hinting at it while like when she jumped off the boat into the water and he claimed he “really liked it.” The two always talked about all the places they would go together, once they had the gold, they started going on a surfing tour together. Then we also have the smaller little things, like when they were on Poguelandia, they had their sleep areas close together so they could watch over one another every night and keep each other company. In season 3, we have many scenes between JJ and Kiara where we see them bonding, catching fish together, riding JJ’s dirt bike, and also the steamy boat scene before we finally get a kiss at the end of the season.
Kiara Always Thought JJ Was Good Enough For Her
Throughout the whole third season, we saw much romantic tension between JJ and Kiara, and when Kiara decides to confront him about the things that happened on the boat when they were going back to the cut at OBX, he kept shutting it down. He didn’t want to discuss it and show his vulnerability, he, deep down, felt he wasn’t good enough for her. Later on, when JJ is back at his own house, she goes to talk to him about it again, and he goes on a tangent about how she is basically a Kook and could have everything she ever wanted while he doesn’t have anything. Instead of agreeing with him, Kiara keeps telling him to stop. It is obvious that he is all she wants, even after sharing a kiss with John B. and dating Pope for a short bit. JJ and Kiara are connected differently.
In season 3, we finally got a piece of what we had been wanting, Kiara and JJ finally shared a kiss together. This is something fans had wanted since earlier seasons but we never got it until now. They spent almost the whole season building it up for this moment and it was worth it…until it was 18 months later. Now we don’t know what happened between them or their relationship…is there still a relationship? We hope so. Netflix did confirm that in season 4 of Outer Banks, we will see things that happened in season 3 that we didn’t get to in those 18 months. Hopefully, JJ and Kiara’s relationship grew into a much bigger thing, especially since it didn’t seem Kiara would be going back to her parents after what they did, so maybe she and JJ are staying somewhere else, maybe even with all the rest of the Pogues. We will have to wait and see what happens in season 4.
