In a post shared by the official X account for Sesame Street, the organization wrote, “Happy #PrideMonth from Sesame Street! Join us in celebrating and uplifting the LGBTQIA+ members of our community.” The post also included several heart emojis in colors associated with the Pride flag.
The post sparked significant debate online, with some critics arguing that a children’s program should not participate in Pride Month messaging, while others defended the post as consistent with the show’s long-standing emphasis on inclusion and respect for different communities. Several public figures also weighed in on the discussion, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, who criticized the post.
“Sesame Street should not be celebrating or promoting the way adults have sex and identify. Nor should any children’s group. Leave kids out of sexual identity politics and protect children’s innocence‼ Just let them grow up‼” she wrote on X.
