With BlizzCon 2023 here, that means we will be getting some big updates on Blizzard’s most popular games. The company has released a trailer for Mauga, the new tank in Overwatch 2, who is a chaingun-wielding hero. The footage shows off his abilities and introduces him and his guns, which he cutely names Gunny and Cha-Cha (seen below).

Overwatch 2 Trailer Official Reveals a New Tank, Mauga, After a Leak of the Hero

Mauga | New Hero Gameplay Trailer | Overwatch 2

Originally leaked on the Nintendo eShop and then shared on Reddit eight hours before the trailer, we now have a full and official picture of what Mauga will bring to the current meta of Overwatch 2. He will cut through the frontline in close-quarters combat despite having two massive guns that can be shot simultaneously or individually.

The guns for the tank have different effects. Gunny delivers a burning effect after afflicting enough damage. Cha-Cha can deliver critical damage. When you accompany his passive ability to gain health from critical hits, Cha-Cha will be vital in not just eliminations but also survivability.

The two abilities can make the tank a reasonable choice. Mauga will rival Reinhardt in charging abilities in Overwatch 2. Overrun acts similarly as he charges through enemies to deal knockback and damage, but this one cannot be stopped by crowd control abilities, like Ana’s sleep dart. The other ability is Cardiac Overdrive, a supporting act to create an aura that reduces incoming damage. It will be a perfect opening for healers to come in and give everyone a patch-up during a fight.

Getting cornered by a tank can be a nightmare. Mauga takes that scenario to the next level for the Overwatch 2 meta that sees tanks state. The character’s ultimate, Cage Fight, blocks enemies into a ring that prevents incoming damage or healing from outside. It sounds like it will offer some creative freedom in how people can utilize it to help themselves or their team or eliminate their foes.

The current state of the game has leaned heavily into DPS and support characters. Tanks are often easy to counter, with some, like Zarya and Orisa, being overpowered due to a lack of hard counters. Maybe with the Roadhog rework, some updates to other heroes, and Mauga, Overwatch 2 will be a better place for tank mains in the coming weeks.

Mauga will be playable early from November 5 to November 8 as a look at what season 8 holds for players. The character will be officially available on December 5.
