Jeff Kaplan recently stated that he hopes to develop more story for Overwatch characters Symmetra and Pharah. While every Overwatch character has devoted lore (comics, videos, written entries) some heroes and villains have taken center stage.
Winston and Tracer have taken the main stage in the vast majority of the story oriented lore that’s been presented, primarily battling Reaper and Widowmaker in different areas. Winston is primarily responsible for instituting the reforming of the overwatch initiative as well, so it makes sense that he is one of the stars of the show.
“Not a lot of people realize this, but pushing the payload in the Gibraltar map is actually pushing the equipment to put the Overwatch network back online,” Kaplan said during an interview to Polygon in New York this week.
During the interview, he stated concern in regards to Symmetra and Pharah’s lack of exposure and that there is a lot more to do with each of them, with each having a “pretty cool” arc that has yet to be explored. While he didn’t state any specific plans, he did say that they have huge plans for Pharah.
The two women from Southeast Asia and Northern Africa respectively aren’t the only characters Kaplan’s hopes to flesh out though, as he has some pretty fun ideas for Roadhog and Junkrat. “Here’s a guy who blew his leg off and thinks it’s the funniest thing ever,” the director said in regards to the Aussie grenadier.
The only issue Kaplan has with creating more lore based stories surrounding the two dingbats is that they don’t fit in with the usual serious nature of the stories.
The game’s one-year anniversary is May 24, with the anniversary event starting next Tuesday, May 23. Just like every other event – and even more so considering the special occasion – the event will be sure to offer plenty of unique incentives and new skins!
It seems like Kaplan and company have big plans for our Overwatch Heroes, so be sure to stay tuned for all of your Overwatch updates, as well as all of your Nerdy News!
