Days after Love Is Blind viewers experienced a 75-minute delay in the scheduled streaming of the Netflix show’s reunion special, executives have explained the exact nature of the “glitch” responsible. As it turns out, the overwhelming number of viewers attempting to stream the show at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday nearly broke the internet— at least on the Netflix space.
Netflix’s CEO Apologize For ‘Love Is Blind’ Reunion Delay
Per Variety, Netflix’s co-CEO Greg Peters explained the delay during an earnings presentation on Tuesday, also apologizing for disappointing viewers. He began:
“We’re really sorry to disappoint so many people. We didn’t meet the standard that we expect ourselves to serve our members.”
Explaining from a more “technical perspective,” Greg pointed out that the streaming platform had an infrastructure in place. However, they somehow overlooked a bug that was introduced while implementing certain changes aimed at improving live streaming performance. By the looks of it, a structure that was meant to improve viewers’ experience ended up becoming a hitch. He divulged:
“We just didn’t see this bug in internal testing because it only became apparent once we put sort of multiple systems interacting with each other under the load of millions of people trying to watch Love Is Blind.”
How Viewers Broke The Internet
Over 6.5 million subscribers tuned in on Netflix on Sunday to watch the Love Is Blind season 4 live reunion. However, they were met with disappointment when the show was delayed for over an hour. Many took to social media to voice their frustrations, having canceled various other activities to catch the reunion special.
Netflix eventually apologized in a statement on Twitter, attributing the delay to a “glitch.” The reunion episode eventually aired over an hour later but not without further glitches. Notably, only a fraction of viewers tuning in could watch the Love Is Blind reunion live, while others still could not tune in even after the delay.
As a result, most of the millions of viewers looking for a first-hand glimpse into the lives of their favorite couple pairs about a year after filming had to wait until the streaming giant uploaded it on Monday. Thankfully, save for the surprise absence of Jackie Bonds and Josh Demas, the cast of Love Is Blind season 4 did not disappoint, making it worth the wait.
