“Top Gear” star Paddy McGuinness discusses his depression battle while revealing it was his ex-wife model Christine that first spotted the symptoms.
Paddy McGuinness has been making the news recently due to his divorce from his ex-wife Christine last year. Although the two confirmed their split last year after 11 years together, they continued to cohabit.
Their living situation has raised many eyebrows however, the former couple claim it is for their children. Paddy and Christine share three children — twins Penelope and Leo, 9, and daughter Felicity, 7.
All three of their children have been diagnosed with autism. Paddy’s ex-wife was also diagnosed with autism in 2021. So it is quite understandable that the pair will choose to keep their family together amidst all their health struggles.
While the TV host has tried to hold it all together, he has been spotted getting closer to TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher. However, sources close to Paddy claimed the two are “good friends” and he is only “leaning on her” for support.

Paddy McGuinness Discusses His Depression Battle
Paddy McGuinness‘ depression first came to light when he was diagnosed with clinical depression in 2018. Since then, the British TV host has been very vocal about his depression.
Interestingly, Paddy McGuinness’ depression symptoms were first spotted by his then-wife Christine. Paddy has previously given credit to Christine for spotting the signs but he reiterated those claims more recently.
While making an appearance on the Monday Mile Podcast, Paddy detailed his battle with depression. The 49-year-old star explained how he was completely unaware of his symptoms until Christine pointed them out.
Paddy revealed:
“So Christine and a few of my family members would say stuff and ask if I was okay and I would think ‘why are they always asking me that?”
He continued:
“But obviously you can’t see it yourself, it’s in your head, it’s not like you’ve got a limp where people can spot it and you can spot.”
At that point, Paddy McGuinness’ depression had already begun affecting his work life. He explained he easily got frustrated and angered while admitting that he started resenting his job.
Paddy claimed he hated the fact that he would get in front of a crowd of people and make them laugh and then return home feeling unhappy. He knew that was not how he was built and decided to get help quickly.
The comedian claimed he nearly gave up hope after seeing two therapists, whom he described as “rubbish.” However, Paddy McGuinness’ depression finally got the much-needed attention when he found the right doctor.
