It is Mean Girls Day, so to celebrate, we have a new, Gen-Z-friendly way to watch the cult classic. Paramount has released the entirety of Mean Girls for free on TikTok. You can watch the film, whether it is your first time or a rewatch, in 23 parts on the video platform.
The reason to celebrate comes from a memorable scene fans latched onto and has since become a popular meme. The scene in question is an exchange between Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) and her crush, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), in math class. Cady narrated, “On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was.” She then responded to his question by saying, “It’s October 3rd.”
Celebrate Mean Girls Day on TikTok After Paramount Released It for Free
The studio is all in on celebrating the day while using it to promote more Mean Girls. At 4 p.m. PT today, on the official Paramount TikTok page, there will be a Mean Girls watch party. This will continue to set the mood as, in January 2024, we will have the musical rendition of this film.
The cast of the musical will feature returning and new stars. Newcomers will include Angourie Rice (Spider-Man: No Way Home), singer Reneé Rapp, Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Bebe Wood (Love, Victor), Avantika (Mira, Royal Detective), Christopher Briney (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Busy Philipps (Vice Principals), Jenna Fischer (The Office), Ashley Park (Beef), and Jon Hamm. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows will return.
As more is done with Mean Girls, from a musical to TikTok, its legacy was darkened earlier this year. The author of Queen Bees and Wannabes, Rosalind Wiseman, spoke to New York Post about the lack of residuals for the success of the film. She was told the film performed poorly at the box office despite making $130 million worldwide off a $17 million budget. While she was paid for the rights to the book for $400,000, she has not seen a dollar more since the original film and has no deal for the upcoming musical.
You can watch all 1 hour and 47 minutes of Mean Girls on TikTok now.
