Paramount+ has released its first trailer for The Offer, a limited TV series telling the behind-the-scenes story of the making of The Godfather. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is based on producer Albert S. Ruddy’s “never before seen experiences,” making the Oscar-winning film mob drama. Ruddy is portrayed by Miles Teller, who is known for his role as Peter Hayes in The Divergent Series. Ruddy was initially intended to be portrayed by actor Armie Hammer. However, sexual assault allegations by several women-led Hammer to exit the series last year, opening the door for Teller to take his place.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will showcase the infamously troubled production of The Godfather. Production was so troubling that Ruddy referred to every day making the film as the worst of his life. The trailer showcases that some issues the production team faced included pushback from Frank Sinatra and a campaign against prejudice portrayals of Italian-Americans in cinema. Threats of violence are also evident in the trailer.
The Godfather is a widely celebrated film, with many calling it one of the greatest of all time. The film’s 50th anniversary this year is being celebrated with a 4K restoration and a limited theatrical re-release.
Along with Teller, the cast also included Juno Temple as Bettye McCartt, Ruddy’s secretary and right-hand woman. Giovanni Ribisi portrays mobster and Godfather anti-fan Joseph Colombo. The Godfather’s director Francis Ford Coppola is portrayed by Dan Fogler, who many will recognize as Jacob Kowalski in the Fantastic Beasts film series.
The Offer will premiere on April 28 on Paramount+.
