A man on Facebook attempted to take a stand on what he believed was right by calling out an Illinois seller’s table as something he “would not recommend to any American.” The reason was that he accused the flag on the bottom shelf of the table of having “colors of the Muslim countries.” People were quick to correct him as it was actually the flag of Italy, making him appear “dumb and racist,” as a response read.
The photo was initially posted in Woodworking For Beginners by Antonio Panzica, who was asked in the Facebook group how much they priced the small table. Someone named William was the user who mistook the Italian colors for “Muslim country colors.” As to why Panzica chose to add the Italian to his work, he claims he was born in Italy, so it’s a country close to his heart.
Panzica also criticized those who “have nothing better to do than make stupid comments” in his post, saying it was just a simple question over the table’s pricing, but people stirred drama over the Italian flag. “This group has the most hateful comments respect other group by far. I never disrespect a member like this when they ask a simple question,” Panzica wrote angrily.
The Facebook Commenter Was Dragged Over His Ignorance of Country Flags
The post also made it to Reddit by user Most-Drive-3347, where people found William’s warning about the small table on Facebook both hilarious and unbelievable. Many praised a user named Mohammed, who made fun of William, saying that “Pasta is Halal now.” Dozens of Redditors joined in the fun: “Casual Islamophobia mixed with ignorance. Classic American brew,” wrote a commenter.
“American stupidity never ceases to surprise me,” sighed another. “Silly murican doesnt even realise the flag on top is flying frances colours,” chuckled a third. “That is so much stupid in one statement,” wrote a fourth.
While there’s no evidence in the post of whether William is actually racist or Islamophobic aside from his show of ignorance, there have been many instances of random people making uneducated guesses or remarks to stir up controversy. While there are plenty of knowledgeable people commenting online, the internet is quick to make the blatantly ignorant, like William, a laughingstock to jeer at.
