Usually, it’s important to follow the rules a landlord sets for a tenant, but not if one’s security is at stake. And one lessor in Pennsylvania took things a little too far with his “rules” when he snuck into one of his renters’ homes to take down a surveillance camera from the bedroom. According to the tenant’s post on Reddit, they came home from work to find their bedroom camera missing and a note on their door that read, “ABSOLUTY NO CAMERAS ON THE PREMISIS!“
When confronted about the situation, the landlord denied any responsibility in the recorded text, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” He then accused the renter of misplacing the camera; two days later, the lessee found their missing camera in their mailbox, broken apart. Of course, plenty of people in the post’s comments suggested calling the police, as this is more or less theft and destruction of personal property. As one person put it, “This isn’t just entitlement on your LL’s part. This is criminal behavior.”
Fortunately, things seemed to have been handled, as the renter states they have filed the ordeal with the police. They also set up three battery-powered cameras in their bedroom just in case. The lessee noted they’re looking for a new place to stay while hoping to gather up more evidence to legally cancel their lease. However, some lesser-upvoted commenters in the post have discovered that there might be more to this renter’s story than they’re letting on.

Some point out that since the two weeks of the account’s creation, 5am1984 has posted nothing but bizarre things about their current living situation. These things include a mysterious note in the bathroom from the previous tenant or a random music box in their closet. That said, few suppose this Reddit account might be just a skit of sorts to cook up a creepy story of a landlord.
