Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recruit Joseph Moore reportedly took his own life after being let go by the agency in Pennsylvania. However, Moore’s demise sparked mockery against the former agent online, inciting a wave of criticism against the liberal-leaning people who made fun of the case.
As reported by the International Business Times, Moore was a 38-year-old Marine reservist and had two children and lived in Pennsylvania. He reportedly wanted to be an officer since he was a kid and discovered he was about to be let go by the agency just before he had worked there for a whole year.
Moore’s death also renewed scrutiny of ICE’s rapid hiring expansion. Due to additional funding, the agency nearly doubled its force from 10,000 to 22,000 recruits. However, critics allege that the process overwhelmed its vetting system, allowing some applicants to advance without completing basic background checks. Moore, for instance, had been dismissed from two agencies, yet ICE hired him.
Liberals Mock Passing of ICE Recruit
Moore’s tragic passing sparked a wave of mockery across social media platforms such as Reddit and X. Many liberal-leaning users had harsh words, such as: “Best thing he ever did. Probably saved a few lives that actually mattered” and “hopefully he is burning in hell now.”
Others commented: “Best news I heard this month. Keep up the good work, you cowards.” Some mocked how he lost his job: “Imagine being such a loser that you can’t even make it in ICE.” Some even made tasteless jokes, such as “oh, that poor bullet,” “hope the raccoons use his gravestone for a toilet,” and “he self-deported from the mortal plane.”
This sparked a wave of anger against the people making fun of his demise. One angry user on X wrote, for example: “All you libs are human trash.”
Some people were also sympathetic to Moore’s passing while condemning ICE: “This guy seems like he was mentally unstable and obsessed with law enforcement. He should never have been working any law enforcement job, let alone hopping from job to job.”
In the wake of this episode, ICE has rejected the criticism, claiming that it only hires “the best of the best.”
