Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will hit theaters this May, and so far we haven’t seen much aside from a couple teaser trailers. In the coming weeks, however, two more will release, both a healthy two and a half minutes long. It’s likely that they are 2D and 3D versions of the same trailer rather than different reels altogether.
In the 2003 Disney film Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, a certain Captain Jack Sparrow commandeered a ship in pursuit of the Black Pearl and its cursed crew, determined to reclaim the ship for his own. Three years later, Jack, Will Turner, and Norrington race to get their hands on Davy Jones’s heart in order to gain influence over him. Unfortunately for them, it’s Cutler Beckett who claims the prize, and in 2007’s third movie, Will, Elizabeth, and Barbossa retrieve Jack from Davy Jones’s Locker, form an alliance with the other pirate lords, and bring down both Davy Jones and Beckett. Fast forward to 2011, and Jack is after the fountain of youth. Too bad the infamous Blackbeard is also after it, and the former captain Sparrow is forced to go along for the ride as he searches for an opportunity to turn things to his favor.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth movie in the series, set for release on May 26, 2017. Jack Sparrow’s old nemesis (before Barbossa, apparently), Armando Salazar, returns for the first time to make Jack’s life a living hell. With a crew of phantoms at his beck and call, Jack’s only hope is Poseidon’s trident, which grants its owner complete mastery over the world’s oceans. A short Pirates of the Caribbean 5 trailer played during the super bowl and showed Will Turner is also set to make an appearance.
