Recently, some players discovered that Arc Raiders has been accidentally logging your Discord information, including DMs, activity, and even your authorization token in some situations. As you can imagine, this sent gamers into a panic, and with good reason, as this is something that should never happen, especially since it can be seen as a violation of privacy. However, before you all take out your pitchforks, Embark Studios has already addressed this situation and is working on a fix, as the team confirms that this was unintended and that everyone’s information is allegedly safe.
Arc Raiders Logging Discord Information Was Unintended, and Embark is Fixing It
The information came out yesterday, and today other players started reporting it on the game’s official subreddit. According to the OP, Arc Raiders players using the Discord integration are affected by a vulnerability in this system. Apparently, the game is capturing your information, putting it all in a file called discord.log, which you can find at: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\PioneerGame\Saved\Logs\
The OP mentioned, however, that this is not data harvesting by Embark, but a massive security oversight. And the truth is that it can be pretty dangerous, as the Redditor and the original source reveal it’s not just accessing what you say in the Arc Raiders Discord server, but your whole activity in Discord.
The post states that the only way to stop this is to change your Discord password, delete the aforementioned file, disable Discord integration, and remove Arc Raiders from your authorized files list.
Since this has been a huge issue, Embark already responded on the Discord server, stating the following:
The team is also working on a hotfix to address an issue where the Discord SDK logged excessive user information. Rest assured that your private and/or personal data was not sent outside your machine and Embark has not (and will not) review or keep such information. We will disable Discord SDK logging and are conducting a deeper audit to ensure no further issues.
Despite the announcement, the Redditor mentions that a hotfix will only prevent future logging, but it will not delete the current .log file. The best approach here is to delete the file and then change your password, especially since this security issue could allow someone to potentially steal your account.
In the end, we’re just glad there are players out there who can spot these dangerous flaws. Still, many players are shocked by this, with a few even claiming that such an error should have been spotted earlier, since it isn’t a weapon exploit or a bug that affects the gameplay loop; it’s something that can actually expose your personal information.
