Players ‘Not Happy’ so Helldivers 2 is Now Giving Free Killzone Crossover Items

Managed Democracy prevails

As soon as the Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 crossover event was released for Helldivers 2, the players quickly took note of and took issue with the prices. Most cosmetics’ prices were easily 2-3x more expensive compared to the usual Helldivers 2 premium shop items. Thankfully, the devs are actually acknowledging the players’ woes and have now promised to deliver free stuff as some kind of apology.

The announcement came from Helldivers 2‘s official X/Twitter account where the devs have stated that they’ve been listening to player feedback. In light of the recent backlash against the Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 crossover event, the devs are now giving a gift (a free one) to all players.

In addition to the gifts, the Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 crossover event and its corresponding items will also have an extended duration. Previously, the crossover and its items would only last for five days, now they’re going to last 10 days in the Superstore before being replaced with other standard items on rotation.

Here’s the full tweet for the exact statement:

Seasons greetings, Helldivers!

As Helldivers x Killzone was our first crossover offering, we’ve been listening to the response, and the feedback we’ve received from our community surveys.

Additionally, the devs released a similar statement on Steam:

“We’re here to talk to you about our crossover with Killzone, which added new premium items to the Superstore. As this was our first crossover offering, we’ve been listening to the response, and the feedback we’ve received from our community surveys is that crossover content is really high up on your wishlists.

At the same time, some of you are not happy with the prices of the items and we will revisit this. Many of you were also concerned that items wouldn’t be in rotation for long enough, and there was a bit of concern around how these items exist outside of our usual Warbond releases, which are always themed in our universe,” according to Arrowhead.

The CEO and the COO Have Heard You

Earlier in the week, and before the announcement of free stuff, CEO Shams Jorjani and CCO Johan Pilestedt of Arrowhead Games (Helldivers 2 devs) also released their own statements. Pilestedt himself apologized online to the players while revealing that the collaboration should’ve been a Warbond (battle pass) initially.

However, the devs decided against turning the crossover event into a Warbond because a high-priced battle pass would carry a “negative sentiment”. Meanwhile, Shams Jorjani stated that it’s the team’s first collaboration and that they’re still figuring things out. He also pointed out that the expensive items are optional.

Still, Jorjani also assured players that the more crossover items they sell, the more they can keep dropping Illuminate-related content for free. Generally, the devs wanted to relay that they could give more stuff for free to the players if the game did well with its optional microtransactions.
