If you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, then no matter which of the three tiers you pay for, you will have to face higher prices starting on September 6. This comes on the same day that the free monthly games for September have been announced, including Saints Row, Black Desert: Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero. The announcement came from the PlayStation Blog, which included the free games for September.
Sony Increases PlayStation Plus Subscription Prices Across All Tiers
The explanation of the price hike was meant for the company to “continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.” The new prices will be at a discounted rate compared to paying monthly or every three months through a whole year.
The new prices are as listed:
- PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription: $79.99, was $59.99
- PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription: $134.99, was $99.99
- PlayStation Plus Premium 12-Month Subscription: $159.99, was $119.99
When posted to social media, subscribers have expressed their distaste for increasing prices without additional benefits. Replies on X, formerly Twitter, go from hammering the service for the games provided in September to knocking the company for the pricier service.
PlayStation is not the only one adjusting its subscription service prices. Earlier in the summer, Xbox hiked its prices for Game Pass. Although minor, Game Pass increased by a dollar to $10.99, and Game Pass Ultimate increased by two dollars to $16.99. Game Pass PC did not change its price, remaining at $9.99. Sony’s competitor most recently pulled the $1 trial days ahead of its biggest release of the year, Starfield, which releases globally on September 6 and early access on August 31.
Charges for the new prices of the subscription will not go into effect until November 6. If you make any adjustments to your subscription on or after September 6, like upgrading or downgrading, then you will pay the new prices.
