Scyther is one of your companions that requires a bit of work to evolve in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. So, it won’t be as straightforward as raising their level like some other companions. Instead, you have to go through a few steps to witness this creature’s evolution.

Evolve Scyther in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl

Scyther is a classic Bug/Flying-type Pokémon. It evolves into the remarkable and strong Scizor. However, if you want to evolve Scyther in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, you will first need a special item. This special item is a Metal Coat. You can head to Iron Island to find one, or you can get it from a Pokémon that holds it. This includes capturing one or trading for one.

Once you have the Metal Coat, allow Scyther to hold it. With this in hand, trade Scyther with a friend or another trainer that you trust. The moment you trade it, Scyther will evolve into Scizor and your fellow trainer should trade it back to you.

Both Scyther and Scizor are popular and beloved Pokémon. Your newly evolved companion will transform into a Bug/Steel-type.

The two have incredible stats no matter which way you decide to use them.

Scyther Stats:

HP 70
Attack 110
Special Attack 55
Defense 80
Special Defense 80
Speed 105
Total 500

Scizor Stats:

HP 70
Attack 130
Special Attack 55
Defense 100
Special Defense 80
Speed 65
Total 500

Locating Scyther in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl

Otherwise, you can head to the Grand Underground in the following areas:

  • Big Bluff Cavern
