Shiny hunting is a pastime at this point in Pokemon Go. Do they offer any sort of different stats? No. That doesn’t stop us from admiring them. Unfortunately, not every pocket monster features a Shiny variant for us desperate Trainers to hunt down. Out of all the beloved creatures, Articuno has a design simply begging for that sleek new look. But it’s not always clear if Articuno, or even Galarian Articuno, can be Shiny in Pokemon Go.
Shiny Articuno in Pokemon Go – Is It Possible?
[Updated August 16, 2024 – included most recent 5-star Raids that had Shiny Articuno as well as tips about beating the Raid]
Shiny collectors rejoice: Articuno does have a Shiny variant in Pokemon Go. It gives the Legendary bird a lighter blue tint that better represents its icy nature. But it comes with a catch. There’s no way to catch Shiny Articuno in the wild like with most other pocket monsters. Instead, it’s only Shiny during Raids or special events like Articuno Day.
If you didn’t join in on the July 2024 5-Star Raids for the Pokemon Go Shared Skies season, then you’ve already missed your most recent shot at scoring a Shiny Articuno. There’s no word on when the next event is for the elegant pocket monster. So, until then, it’s a waiting game.
As for Galarian Articuno, it’s unfortunate to say that it does not have a Shiny variant in Pokemon Go. The Galarian version alone already has a cool look though, so if you’re after this pocket monster for aesthetics, let’s hope you’ve already caught the Galarian form when it was available.
Articuno 5-Star Raid Tips
Although you might have missed the recent Articuno 5-Star Raid, you should know what to expect whenever it rolls around again so you can ensure you’ll nab that Shiny Pokemon Go variant. There are some key Pokemon that will work well in a Raid.
As an Ice/Flying-type, Articuno is weak to Electric, Fire, Rock, and Steel. You’ll want to focus on utilizing Rock-type moves and Pokemon the most as they can cause better damage. The Pokemon that can help you are listed below:
- Shadow Rampardos
- Shadow Rhyperior
- Shadow Tyranitar
- Aggron & Mega Aggron
Keep in mind that Shiny Articuno debuted years ago in Pokemon Go. So, there’s always a chance that it’ll return.
