Who doesn’t love getting Shiny variants in Pokémon Go? Sure, they don’t actually do anything differently. They’re not stronger or have special move sets. But that doesn’t matter, does it? They just look fun. In Pokémon Go, you can catch a Shiny Charmander like other Gen I starters and even evolve them into the cool, all-black Charizard. So, let’s find out just how you can get that Shiny Charmander.

Catch a Shiny Charmander in Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go Catch Shiny Charmander

Pokémon Go added Shiny Charmander back in 2020 on Community Day. This differs from the standard Charmander because the Shiny one has a more yellow complexion. Once you evolve this up to Charizard, the Shiny Pokémon will boast a black hue instead. For fans, this may bring up some nostalgia about Mega Charizard X as the looks are similar, but Shiny Charizard just lacks the blue flames.

But first, we need a Shiny Charmander in our lineup to evolve. The most straightforward way to get a Shiny Charmander in Pokémon Go is just to catch one. Easier said than done, though, right?

Catching a Shiny Charmander is the same as finding any Shiny in Pokémon Go: it’s a toss-up. Some players are simply lucky and stumble upon a Shiny variant right away. With others, it can take exploring countless Pokémon and not encountering a single Shiny.

Your best bet is to click on every Charmander you encounter in the wild. You’ll never know at a glance if one is a Shiny or not until you battle it. So, it won’t hurt to battle each one you encounter until you see a Shiny.

An excellent way to increase your chances for a Shiny Charmander in Pokémon Go is to search for them during sunny and clear conditions. Charmander always has a higher likelihood of showing up then.

Additional Ways to Get a Shiny Charmander

There is a chance for you to simply hatch a Shiny Charmander in Pokémon Go rather than going around and battling every Charmander you see. This is still a luck-based process, though. Even so, it doesn’t hurt to gather up those eggs and get to hatching.

Additionally, you can keep an eye out for Field Research tasks that reward you with a Shiny Charmander.
