This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

Pokemon GO’s latest event, the Season of Light, will start on September 1, 2022, and introduces the adorable Cosmog from Pokemon Sun and Moon. In the 2016 Nintendo 3DS games, Cosmog will be able to unlock its full potential and eventually transform into the mighty Solgaleo or Lunala Legendary Pokemon depending on which game you have. Since their first form has been officially announced by Niantic, let’s see how you can get Solgaleo and Lunala for your party in Pokemon GO.

How to Get Solgaleo and Lunala in Pokemon GO

Pokémon GO: How to Get Solgaleo and Lunala

Solgaleo and Lunala are the final evolution of a small, harmless Legendary Pokemon called Cosmog. So with that in mind, first, you’re going to need to get your hands on a Cosmog; either through a Special Research Task at the beginning of the Season of Light or through Raid Battles. After that, you need to evolve it into Cosmoem. To get a Cosmoem, you are going to need 25 Cosmog Candies.

  1. Completing Tasks in the “A Cosmic Companion” Special Research Quest.
  2. Walk Cosmog or Cosmoem as your Buddy for 20 km (it’ll only give you 1 Candy though).

Then, to reach the third and final evolution, you’re going to need 100 Candies. And since there are no two different Pokemon GO — unlike Pokemon Sun and Moon — you also probably have to evolve Cosmog during a specific time of day to transform it into Solgaleo or Lunala:

  • Solgaleo: The Psychic/Steel-Type sun-bright lion Pokemon. Give Cosmoem 100 Cosmog Candies during the daytime.
  • Lunala: The Psychic/Steel-Type moon-shaped bat Pokemon. Give Cosmoem 100 Cosmog Candies during the nighttime.

However, according to Pokemon GO data miners Pokeminers, you cannot evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem and Solgaleo or Lunala. Taking that into account, you might need to run Raid Battles during Season of Light to get Solgaleo and Lunala in Pokemon GO instead. But keep in mind that this is not official information and Niantic can easily change them once it decided to finally release Cosmoem, Solgaleo, and Lunala into the game. For additional leaked information, below is the list of the data mined moves that the Cosmog evolutionary lines will have.

Pokemon Name Fast  Moves List Charged Moves List
Cosmog Splash Struggle
Cosmoem Splash Struggle
Solgaleo Zen Headbutt
Fire Spin
Iron Head
Psychic Fangs
Solar Beam
Flamethrower
Lunala Confusion
Air Slash
Shadow Ball
Psychic
Moonblast
Future Sight

Nevertheless, following this Season of Light and Cosmog event, we should start seeing Solgaleo and Lunala appear in various Raid Battles just like other Legendary Pokemon, letting us capture as many of their pre-evolution as we can down the road.
