Aggron is a Steel and Rock-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO. Aggron evolves from Lairon using 100 candies, who initially evolves from Aron using 25 candies. With a mix of high attack stats and even higher defence, Aggron is a formidable Pokemon both in your party and against it in battles and raids. Whether you’re looking to use Aggron in the Ultra League, Great League or during raids, knowing more about the Pokemon’s moveset, strengths and weaknesses will help you win. This guide provides information on the best Movesets and various Counters for Aggron in Pokemon GO.
The Best Movesets and Counters for Aggron in Pokemon GO
The best moveset to use with Aggron in Pokemon GO is Iron Tail and Heavy Slam. With Iron Tail having the highest DPS out of the three Quick Moves and Heavy Slam having relatively low energy consumption, these two pair well for consistently getting attacks out. However, if you’re looking to counter Ground or Fighting types, you may opt to use Smack Down instead, which has similar DPS and EPS stats to Iron Tail. All of these moves also have Same-Type Attack Bonuses, allowing them to deal 20% extra damage.
What Counters Aggron?
Since Aggron is a Steel and Rock-type, it is weak against Fighting, Ground and Water-type moves. In particular, Fighting and Ground-type moves deal 256% of their usual damage while Water inflicts 160%. However, Aggron is resistant to a whopping nine types, with one of them dealing only 24% of its usual damage. With that said, the following Pokemon are examples of those that are strong against Aggron in Pokemon GO:
- Pheromosa: Low Kick and Focus Blast
- Lucario: Counter and Aura Sphere
- Landorus (incarnate/Therian): Mud Shot and Earth Power (Incarnate) or Earthquake (Therian)
- Conkeldurr: Counter and Dynamic Punch or Focus Blast
- Excadrill: Mud Slap and Earthquake
- Blaziken: Counter and Focus Blast

Alongside being weak against Steel and Rock-type attacks, Aggron is resistant to nine types in Pokemon GO:
- Rock (63%)
- Bug (63%)
- Psychic (63%)
- Ice (63%)
- Dragon (63%)
- Fairy (63%)
- Normal (39%)
- Flying (39%)
- Poison (24%)
If you’re using Aggron during battles, prioritize using either Fighting or Ground Pokemon, with Water being a good alternative. If you don’t have any of the six Pokemon listed above, don’t worry! As long as you have a Pokemon that uses these types, you’ll gain an advantage against Aggron! Similarly, avoid using any of the nine types above, especially Poison, Flying and Normal. If you are using Aggron in battle, though, using it against these types will help you take much less damage while dishing out enough to weaken the other party significantly.
