Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are having a new Raids event featuring everyone’s favorite little coin collector, Gimmighoul. Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are special battles in which a group of trainers faces a giant, Terastallized Pokemon. Many players aim for five-star Raids as those are the Raids that offer the most. Pokemon players look forward to Raid events as that is when Shiny Pokemon become easier to capture. But how easy is it to capture a Shiny Gimmighoul in the new Raid event for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? Let’s break it all down.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Gimmighoul Raid Event
Starting June 21, Chest Form Gimmighoul will appear in Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Tera Raid Battles are divided by star rank. The higher the rank, the more difficult the fight will be.
When Terastallized, a Pokemon will gain a new Tera Type that’s different from its default typing. Gimmighoul’s Tera Type is random in all battles; there’s no consistent typing.
You can take part in Tera Raid Battles either solo or with a group of other players online. Computer AI trainers will aid you if you face a Tera Raid Battle solo. A Shiny form Gimmighoul only has a small chance of spawning in five-star Tera Raid Battles. This new Event will be the first time players can capture a Shiny Gimmighoul in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
How to Capture A Shiny Gimmighoul
A Shiny Gimmighoul only has a 1 in 4103 spawning in Raid Battles. Beforehand, Shiny Gimmighoul was not available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Gimmighoul will appear in its Shiny form during Raid Battles, but the difference between Shiny Gimmighoul and normal Gimmighoul are subtle. The main body of the Gimmighoul is paler, but the chest and coins remain the same. Because the difference between the two forms is small, it is best that you capture every Gimmighoul.
The best chance to capture a Gimmighoul in Raid Battles is to set your clocks to nighttime and use Dusk Balls. Dusk Balls are some of the best Poke Balls in the games and are more effective during the night.
However, you capture the Gimmighoul in a Raid Battle only by defeating it.
How to Defeat Gimmighoul in Raid Battles
Because Gimmighoul’s Tera Type can be anything, the Pokemon’s weakness is always changing depending on what Tera Raid Battle you’re in.
You should be concerned about what types of moves Tera Gimmighoul will use against you, as that will determine how long your Pokemon will last. Shadow Ball, Hex, and Power Gem are common moves Gimmighoul will use in Raid Battles. Avoid using Pokemon with weakness to Ghost and Rock-type attacks.
Dark-type Pokemon are good against Gimmighoul because Dark Pokemon are resistant to Ghost-type attacks. Many players have found Meowscarada and Kingambit the ideal Pokemon to use against Tera Raid Gimmighoul. Meowscarada and Kingambit also learn strong attacks like Night Slash, Shadow Claw, Flower Trick, and Iron Head. No matter what, go into a five-star Raid Battle with a Pokemon at over level 75.
The Gimmighoul Raid Event lasts until July 2 at 4:59 PM PT. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are only available for the Nintendo Switch.
