Sometimes you can come across situations where you just can’t turn a blind eye. A police officer’s wife in Michigan shared how her husband told her about a Black mother who was struggling. He met the mother while he was on duty and found her with her two kids and their two cats living in their car. The oldest kid is 14 while the youngest is 7 years old. Her situation becomes even more emotional when you know that her oldest son has severe autism. The officer’s wife kept sharing details about the family’s horrible living situation. She shared how the kids didn’t have proper clothes on and that they were struggling in the hot weather. Unfortunately, the mother told the officer that she lost her house a week ago. They now only had their car and she was close to losing it as well.
The Michigan mother’s situation only gets more heartbreaking when you learn more about it. She started writing down her name, her number, and her date of birth for her kids, telling them that they were going with the police. Imagine a mother having to say goodbye to her two kids because she can no longer care for them. It’s just terrible. The mother was even ready to turn her kids over to CPS. No mother should go through this. What makes matters worse is that she was also ready to get herself arrested so that she would have a shelter and food. The police officer’s wife couldn’t live with herself if she didn’t try to help the Black family. This is why she started a GoFundMe for them.
While the initial goal was $1500, people managed to raise over $45,000 for the family. Their lives have completely changed. As people wondered what would happen next, the Michigan wife shared an update. According to her, they will transfer the money to the mother’s account. The husband and wife are also working with the police department to get everything sorted out. Even the mayor got in touch with them. In addition to this, they will help the mother get a liaison and a lawyer. In another video, the wife shared that they met the mother and her kids. Right now, the woman is simply in shock at everything that has happened so far. This proves to you that good things could still happen.
People Reacting to the Michigan Black Mother’s Situation
People were left heartbroken after hearing about the mother’s situation. This made them make sure to donate to help the family. Since they managed to raise a lot of money, one woman wrote, “This community is amazing.” Others started thanking the police officer and his wife for actually caring. “This mother is about to start a new life‼ Bless you and your husband for your compassion and for his service to your community,” one person wrote. Several people were also sad that such a situation is happening in the first place. “this is so sad. It’s happening everywhere,” someone wrote. Another person then said, “This should not be happening in America.” There was also a TikTok user who believed that this could happen to anyone. “Most people don’t realize we are ALL 1 tragedy or a few paychecks away from this same situation,” they wrote.
In addition to these comments, some people brought up politics. “How can it be that America has so much money for Ukraine or Israel but not for its own citizens? How great is America if a mother with two children has to live like this?America was never great,” one person wrote. Unsurprisingly, a lot of people agreed. There were still positive comments that were happy with how the situation had changed completely. There was even one woman who suggested that the couple could change more lives. “What if you kept the go fund for when your husband encounters another mother or even father who is faced with this same situation down the road. To be able to help out more than one family would be even more amazing,” she wrote. Hopefully, more people would help any person who is going through a situation similar to that of the Michigan mother.
