One of this award season’s biggest crowd pleasures has his next film in the works. Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos will be directing the remake of Save the Green Planet, a 2003 Korean fantasy comedy. The director behind the Emma Stone-led film will not rest anytime soon as the upcoming project will begin production in the U.K. and New York this summer.
A disillusioned man thinks the world is being threatened by an alien invasion. He kidnaps a businessman who he believes is a part of the attack. It becomes an intense, comedic endeavor between the two, the kidnapper’s girlfriend, and a private detective. No casting has been announced for the English-speaking remake.

The news was broken this morning by Variety. The deal was initially struck for an American remake in 2022 with Ari Aster attached. The Hereditary director will produce with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe.
Jang Joon-hwan directed the original cult classic. He was originally set to return to direct the remake from a script penned by Succession writer Will Tracy.
Save the Green Planet will not be the next film to be released by Yorgos Lanthimos. His next project, Kinds of Kindness, has entered post-production. Plot details are under wraps. It reunites him with the Cruella star and Willem Dafoe. It will also star Margaret Qualley, Hunter Schafer, Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, and Mamoudou Athie.
This year’s Oscars will be held on March 10. Poor Things is looking strong with its 11 nominations. It is in second place for the most nominations as Oppenheimer stands in front with 13 nods. So far, it has won five BAFTAs, one Critics Choice prize, a Golden Globe, and more.
