If someone will make history, it is Posty. The collaboration between Swae Lee and Post Malone for the single Sunflower, featured in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, has made history with a Double-Diamond. This means the song has reached 20 million sales, or 20 Platinums.

Released in 2018 for the animated Spidey blockbuster, the single was an instant hit. It swung its way to Billboard’s Hot 100 at the number one spot. Sunflower was Post Malone’s third number-one song on the Hot 100 and his collaborator’s first.

The historical certification was announced today by the Recording Industry Association of America. The ten-time Grammy-nominated musician now has eight Diamond songs with White Iverson, Congratulations (feat. Quavo), I Fall Apart, rockstar (feat. 21 Savage), Psycho (feat. Ty Dolla $ign), Better Now, and Circles.

It is not all about sales for Post Malone and Swae Lee’s Sunflower. It has been streamed over 3 billion times on Spotify, 1.8 million on SoundCloud, and over 2 billion views across multiple YouTube channels.

The film was a modest success as it grossed $384 million. Through a positive reception and streaming on Netflix, it gained a wider audience for its sequel. Last year’s Across the Spider-Verse grossed $690 million. A third and final installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is in the making.

Featuring music from one of the most popular musicians in the Spider-Man film was not only a smart move but a fitting one. He has had a long history with nerd and geek culture as a big gamer who loves games like Call of Duty and Elden Ring. Over the years, he has proven to be game for surprising collaborations and crossovers, like working with Ozzy Osbourne and others beyond his genre.

Expect to see Post Malone’s name some more after this milestone for Sunflower. He will be performing at the Super Bowl on February 11 to sing America the Beautiful before kickoff.
