Princess Eugenie received dual invitations to spend the Christmas Holidays with two conflicting sides of her royal family in what appears to be a defiant move by Prince Harry. Weeks back, reports confirmed that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle did not receive an invitation to the royal family’s annual Christmas holiday at Sandringham, making their fourth year in a row since stepping back from their royal duties and relocating to the United States. Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie got her spot on the invite list to Sandringham, alongside her husband Jack Brooksbank, 38, and their two children. However, the latest move from Harry and Meghan may put the princess in dire straits, uncertain about where to nest this holiday season.
The Sussexes reportedly extended an invitation to the Brooksbanks to spend the Christmas holiday with them at their Montecito mansion. Given Princess Eugenie’s close ties to Prince Harry, the invitation is one she would be glad to hop on, especially with two kids in the same age range as her two children. However, with the royal invite to Sandringham, the princess finds herself in a tough position, almost like a test of loyalty. Royal commentator Jennie Bond has weighed in on the implication of this crossroads, and the likelihood of Eugenie reaching a compromise. She shared,
“It would be pretty bad form to refuse an invitation to Sandringham, and I imagine she would want to be with her mum and dad, after a difficult year for them as well. But I thing she values her relationship with Harry and Meghan too.”
Princess Eugenie Would Make It Up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The royal commentator described the situation as a tricky one. However, Princess Eugenie, who has always been close to her cousin Prince Harry may find her way around navigating the Christmas holidays between the United States and the royal walls of Sandringham. One way to do that would be splitting her time between both regions and most likely, dedicating the new year to the Sussexes right after enjoying the Christmas Day festivities with her uncle King Charles and cousin Prince William. Jennie shared,
“A New Year’s visit would be an ideal compromise… and would keep a link between Harry and his UK family, which has to be a good thing all around.”
Finding herself torn between Prince Harry and the rest of the royals is not a new situation for Princess Eugenie. The 34-year-old has maintained her close ties with Harry and Meghan since their controversial royal exit, despite the long-prevailing royal rift. Jennie Bond previously suggested that Eugenie’s closeness to the Sussexes has proven beneficial to the monarchy, as she remains a reliable source of information about Harry and Meghan.
According to the royal expert, King Charles, who remains on good terms with his niece despite her refusal to take sides, “can quietly ask about Harry’s wellbeing” from her whenever he felt inclined to do so. Hence, the mother of two conveniently serves as the neutral party in the royal feud and possibly, the key to ending it for good. Perhaps an opportunity for Princess Eugenie to do just that would present itself this Christmas season.
