The relationship between royal brothers Prince William and Prince Harry appears to remain strained, especially in the wake of the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare. However, one thing the brothers seem to have in common is their passion for carrying on the legacy of their late mom, Princess Diana. One such legacy is her commitment to helping the homeless, which Prince William has wholly embraced.
The Prince of Wales showed his commitment to the cause when he visited the London hub of Depaul UK, on Thursday morning, January 19. The organization, founded in 1989, focuses on preventing and alleviating the impact of homelessness on people’s lives in communities across the U.K.
Prince William Honored His Late Mom With His Latest Engagement
Through his latest visit to Depaul, Prince William reiterated his commitment to his mom’s legacy and support of the homeless despite the change in his royal role since becoming the Prince of Wales. The 40-year-old admitted his late mom inspired him to help the homeless.
According to him, the Late Princess Diana took him and his brother Harry to homeless shelters while growing up, to learn more about the challenging issue. Depaul especially held a special significance to the royal as his late mom visited the home three times between 1990 and 1995. In fact, the dad of three has become dedicated to following his mom’s path through such engagements. Today, he is a patron of at least two charities, including The Passage and Centrepoint, which has a link to his mom.
During his latest engagement, Prince William spoke with staff and clients of the organization, to learn more about its mode of operation and activities. He was also enlightened about DePaul’s innovative homelessness prevention services, from educational workshops to family support and mediation.
Prince William’s Dedication To The Cause
This is not the first time the Prince of Wales has shown support for the homeless. In June 2022, Prince William granted an interview for The Big Issue, a charity organization that supports the homeless. Then, he shared his take on homelessness, saying he believed it was not an irrevocable fact of life. He also stressed the need to build an innovative support network to curb the homelessness crisis.
Prince William’s latest engagement factoring homelessness comes a week after the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare. In the book, the Duke of Sussex detailed the impact of his mom’s death on him, and how he hoped to carry on her legacy. He also touched on some underlying issues with his brother, Prince William. Hopefully, as the brothers continue their quest to uphold Princess Diana’s legacy, they would also find common ground and resolve whatever underlying issues they may have, past or present.
