Prison Architect had come a long way since the Early Access Alpha build was made available in 2012. The developers have released regular monthly updates since then, often accompanied with video diaries showcasing the new changes. Even with the full release in October 2015, updates continued to roll in and significantly change the way the game is played.
No more. The developers have released version 2.0 of Prison Architect, and have announced that it is the final content update of the game. They will continue to patch bugs and provide support for Prison Architect, but no significant gameplay adjustments will be added.
So what can you expect to see in Prison Architect version 2.0? There are the requisite bug fixes and convenience upgrades, but the two biggest changes lie in the addition of the developer tools and cheat mode. The developer tools allow you to tweak and change a huge number of variables and most likely break the game in the process. The cheat mode will require you to start a new prison and toggle it as a “cheat” prison. You will not be able to change that prison out of cheat mode, you cannot sell the prison for a profit, and achievements cannot be unlocked while it is active. The cheat mode allows all buildings to be spawned instantly at no cost, bureaucracy to finish almost instantly, water to be placed like other resources, and a host of other things to allow for no challenge super-prison building.
The developers released one final video detailing this update to Prison Architect. They stated that they are going to take a short break from developing, and then begin work on their next game.
