Over the last decade, Call of Duty has seen a variety of changes; as we look back at the franchise as a whole, no greater blunder stands out than the use of Jetpacks. At the time, the use of jet packs provided players with a new sense of mobility in a boots-on-the-ground dominated genre.  Upon the introduction of Jet Packs into Call of Duty, the community fell divided. Because of this division and fallout, Treyarch Studio Design Director, David “Vahn” Vonderhaar has declared that he has no intentions of bringing Jet Packs to the next Treyarch C.o.D.

Earlier today, Mr. Vonderhaar stated that he has no desire or plans to bring Jet Packs to the next Call of Duty. After posting a link to a song he enjoyed, a Twitter user by the handle “PPerseting” responded with, “you butter have jetpacks in the next cod.” In response to this comment, Mr. Vonderhaar only had one bold but direct word to say, “No.” Another Twitter user by the moniker “Meltezy” decided to add his opinion by stating, “Jetpacks will revive cod!” Seemingly annoyed by “Meltezy’s” response, Mr. Vonderhaar calmly responded, “Such short-term memories. You hung me from the highest branch. No. NO. I have PTSD.”

Previous Jet Packs

Looking back at Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, it was a tolerable one and done experience; however, Infinite Warfare felt dry and regurgitated. Jet Packs have not been in a C.o.D since Call of Duty Black Ops 3, but with the success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, we do not expect the return of jet packs any time soon. Based on Mr. Vonderhaar’s responses, many in the Call of Duty community suspect that Treyarch is developing the next Call of Duty.

What did you think of jet packs in C.o.D? Would you like to see them return or be a thing of the past? Will the next Treyarch Call of Duty bring back fan-favorite game mode, Zombies?
